Bellydance Con–FusionBellydance Con–Fusion

I teach and perform Bellydance Fusion, which I jokingly call Bellydance Con-Fusion.” These days in the bellydance community, fusion is a highly-charged topic. When it's mixed with Flamenco, Classical Indian dance or ballet, it's an elegant blend of styles. But I confess, I've mixed some strange brews!

Athough my choreographies may earn me a spot on the Cultural Police’s Most Wanted List, I like to create fun--and if possible--funny pieces. We've been pirates, biker-cowgirls, old west saloon girls, showgirls, vampires and demented dolls. Most of the time we're well-received for our rock-a-belly, funky, good-natured sexy style.

But the inevitable question always arises: is bellydance fusion or “con-fusion” still bellydance? In my mind it is! At the core of every dance, I always use those infinitely mesmerizing Middle Eastern curves. But while I love so much of what bellydance has to offer, I am even more committed to the sheer joy of movement expression--and love to get both dancers and audiences excited by the show.
