Pole Dance FAQ'sPole Dance FAQ's

So you want to take pole dance classes at WorldDance Fitness? Here are answers to some frequently asked questions. And these give you our spin on pole dancing....

  • Pole dancing is as sensual or athletic as you want it to be. You decide how to approach it.
  • Initially, you don’t need excessive upper body strength to start. But you'll get stronger if you continue--in upper body, legs and especially abs!
  • Many strip club pole dancers prance around the pole. This is not the pole dancing we teach.
  • We teach spins, transitions and postures. In more advanced classes we teach climbs, inversions and help with routines.
  • Don’t wear lotions or rings. Lotions make you slip and rings scratch the pole.
  • What else to wear? Yoga /dance pants, t-shirt and bare feet are good for Level 1, Beginning Pole sessions.
  • In Level 2 and above, expect to wear shorts. Bare skin (also vinyl boots and shoes) help you stick to the pole. Dancing in platforms heels is a separate challenge unto itself!
  • Bruises are common in more advanced pole dancing. We call these “pole bites.” Arnica helps.
  • Pole dancing gives you a kinesthetic understanding of centrifugal force, gravity and momentum.
  • We encourage self expression and performance even in Level 1.
  • At a recent Pole Performance evening, one audience member likened each pole performer to a superhero (as in the X-men!) where each dancer brought their own unique superpower to the pole.
  • And yes, men pole dance, too!
  • If you don't want to commit to a 4 week class, we can arrange either a private pole party-intro for you and your friends or a private class. Call or email for details.
