The Bay Area is a mecca for Middle Eastern dance, aka bellydance. Dhyanis and Aruna are professionals in this community, deeply involved in the practice and promotion of belly dance.
World Dance Fitness is a temple dedicated to women's artful movement. It's the manifestation of a passionate vision Aruna and Dhyanis shared about creating a welcoming place for women to explore dance, fitness & well-being and to establish a community where women could express themselves and have fun. The students at WDF come in all imaginable shapes and sizes. We are mothers, professional women, grandmothers, and teenagers, from all walks of life.
WorldDance Fitness teachers are trained dancers who have dedicated years of focused study to bellydance. We have extensive backgrounds in many styles of bellydance (classical Egyptian, cabaret, fusion, folkloric and American tribal), dance and theater.
We also have a strong knowledge base in exercise physiology, strength training, yoga and Pilates. We are a favored--and effective alternative to the gym!
We teach in a way that reaches everyone. No previous dance or fitness experience is necessary! We start from square one and move logically from there, ensuring that a strong foundation is built and maintained. We are always available for one-on-one feedback and guidance. You are welcome here no matter what your dance aspirations may be!
Students at WDF also learn about the dance's historical and cultural context. Understanding Arabic music is key to understanding Middle Eastern dance, an aspect that is often neglected by other teachers. We make sure that the complexities of Arabic rhythm and instrumentation are demystified for our students. For anyone ready to try, we also offer dance performance opportunities with our several troupes and for solo artists.
Our boutique specializes in original clothing by Dhyanis and includes everything the belly dancer needs including fabulous dance pants, skirts, and tops. Coin, beaded and fringed hip belts and scarves are available in all sizes, colors, and price ranges. Gift certificates are always available.
